Google's Bid to Digitize Books Sparks Debate

FreakBits announces “The 10 Most Pirated eBooks of 2009”

The file sharing news site FreakBits did a roundup of BitTorrent's most downloaded eBooks and compiled a list of “The 10 Most Pirated eBooks of 2009”, shedding some light on the reading habits of eBook pirates.

All titles on the list have been downloaded between 100,000 and 250,000 times – figures high enough to worry publishers. However, these titles are not the ones usually found on display at bookshops. Most of the books on the list fall either into the nerdy niche category, or are porn related.

Un-Crippling the International Kindle

Up until recently, for those living outside the US, the Kindle has been no more than a curiosity. But since its launch, Amazon’s International Kindle has changed the way that readers around the world experience books. English speakers everywhere can now get quick and cheap access to books that could otherwise be hard-to-find. Well, in principle, that would be what one would expect from the International Kindle. In reality, for anyone using the Kindle outside the United States, the device comes in a somewhat crippled state.
